Upcycled Wooden Coasters

These coasters were cut from unused wooden fence posts that had been used on our farm since at least the 1960s. We can see the posts in old photos of the farm where parked cars were definitely from the 1960s era. Our best guess is that the wood is black walnut, based on the grain and on the large number of black walnut trees on the property. These posts weathered over time and became harder, with a naturally weathered exterior. We have cut, sanded, and simply oiled them to show the rings and the other stories of the trees that made up the wood. See if you can tell where an insect or other creature took up residence for a while over the lifetime of the tree. 

Each set contains four with bumpers either placed by us based on which side we believed looked the best or sent in the box for you to place on your own. Each coaster is 3.5 x 3.5 x .5 before adding bumpers. Every one is different with slight variations in size as they are hand cut and sanded.
